CoffeeAM Takes on the Coffeehouse Brews
Trying to decide which coffees to choose can be difficult, especially when there is such a large selection. We thought we would take this opportunity to compare some of the more common coffee blends from some big coffee houses and our equivalents.
Breakfast - Rise and Shine!
Let’s start with the morning cup. Beginning your day with a delightful cup of coffee should be enjoyable. What do morning brews look like?
Starbucks Breakfast coffee is a medium to medium-light roast. It is dubbed a mild coffee that is light and lively. With a touch of citrus and a clean crisp finish, this coffee would be a good morning choice.
Peet’s doesn’t have a breakfast coffee on their menu. The closest we could find was their Costa Rica Aurora. This lightly roasted coffee blend is said to be bright and sweet with notes of dark berry juxtaposed with clean citrus.
Caribou’s Daybreak is a medium-light roasted coffee said to have a subtle fruity sweetness with a hint of nuttiness and rich caramel on the finish.
Our Breakfast Blend of Central and South American coffees yields a soft, mellow cup with delightful flavors of caramel and chocolate. Perfectly balanced and immensely flavorful, this medium-roast coffee is the ideal choice for waking you up in the mornings.
House - A Signature Brew
A house blend is typically a signature blend that is always available regardless of the time of day or season of the year.
The Starbucks House Blend is roasted medium to medium-dark. It is said to be a perfectly balanced brew in aroma, body, and flavor. Notes of nuts and cocoa highlight this, the first Starbucks blend.
The Peet’s House Blend is a dark roast. It yields a cup that has medium flavor with bright notes of sweet citrus.
The Caribou House Blend is a medium roast that is rich and complex. Heavy and bold with syrupy flavors and a hint of woodiness and spice, this coffee finishes with a savory note of bittersweet chocolate.
The Gourmet House Blend is one of our best-selling coffees. An exclusive blend of Central and South American beans this brew has been chosen as a favorite by our coffee house clients and is always in high demand. Balanced and rich with slight undertones of chocolate and caramel this invigorating coffee has a smooth finish that’s perfect any time of day.
French Roast - Make it Bold
A good French Roast makes a bold statement. Ideal for espresso and espresso-based drinks, this dark roast blend needs more than a smoky overtone. It needs flavor.
Full and robust with bold flavor, Starbucks French Roast is about as dark as you can roast it. It is said to have a light body and low acidity along with its intense smokiness.
The French Roast at Peet’s is bittersweet and smoky with slight hints of caramel. Their darkest roast is dubbed coffee-forward, spicy, and complex with a pleasant bite.
At Caribou, though they dark roast their French Roast coffee, they claim their version has a twist - they don’t roast it as dark as most coffee roasters do. Smooth and heavy, this French Roast has bittersweet notes of cocoa with fruity acidity and a smoky finish.
Our best-selling French Roast is bold and heavy with low acidity. The flavorful brew is accompanied by bittersweet notes and a smokiness your taste buds will find completely satisfying.
Typically a roaster will create an exclusive blend that you just can’t find anyplace else.
Smooth and balanced, Starbucks’ Pikes Place is named for their first store in Pike Place Market. Smooth and well-rounded, this medium roast blend has subtle flavors of rich cocoa and toasted nuts.
At Peet’s, their Major Dickason’s Blend was requested by a customer, one of the first of their loyal customer club members. Dark roasted and smooth, this coffee is full-bodied and complex.
It would seem Caribou Coffee plays mostly in the seasonal realm. The current exclusive blend is their Lakeshore. A light roasted blend that has fresh citrusy notes tending with a silky smoothness.
Of all our exclusive blends, our Jamaica Blue Mountain Reserve is a masterful combination of Jamaica Blue Mountain beans with high-grown South American varietals. This best-selling blend is a mouthwatering combination producing a luxuriously smooth brew that is well-balanced with a delicate spiciness and silky finish.
