Once lost to the jungles of Sumatra, this gourmet coffee was rediscovered after a dramatic history of hardship. It took almost 100 years for this varietal to be rediscovered, hidden amongst the lush jungle undergrowth in the heart of Sumatra. Since, then, these Arabica coffee beans have been replanted in the Mandheling Province of West Sumatra, which is now one of the highly recognized gourmet coffee producers in the world.

Sumatra Mandheling coffee has a syrupy body with hints of chocolate and brown sugar. It is well-known for its smooth and full-bodied flavor that is both earthy and complex. Rich in history and rich in flavor, these coffee beans are legendary in the world of Sumatran coffee.

Coffee from this country is also available as Swiss Decaf or Decaf.

Light Dark

From the sub-region of Lake Takengon, Sumatra Mandheling is a wet-hulled coffee that provides your coffee cup with a heavy and complex body. Medium-roasted to perfection, Mandheling coffee is layered with flavors such as dark chocolate, floral herbs, and hints of mangoes and peach.

The perfect coffee

As an avid coffee drinker with quite broad and eclectic tastes, this is the coffee to which I always return for daily drinking. It has great balance, low acidity and outstanding flavor. And it is not entirely about the beans. I have purchased the "same" beans from other providers and used them with considerably less pleasure than is afforded by the beans from coffeeAM. This is my go-to source for Sumatra Mandheling coffee, and any departure is disappointing by comparison.

Better than average

I'm always excited to try a new coffee especially when I can get a deal. I'm always trying at times to better my Kenyan double a which I first had in Kenya and I have been hooked on ever since. That said I found the Sumatra coffee a very oily roast which is not suitable for my super automatic coffee maker. I found the taste mellow without an aftertaste which is suitable unless you like a stronger and more robust single origin coffee. My super automatic is set to Strong even with my favorite Kenyan AA. I found the Sumatra coffee to be a little bland for my taste without much depth. But like they say to each his own.

Good Memories

I spent two years living in North Sumatra, and the aroma and flavor of this coffee bring back good memories of my time there among the Batak people. I highly recommend this flavor!

Sumatra Decaf review

I have been enjoying the Sumatra Decaf coffee. Until I tasted Sumatra Decaf I didn't know what wonderful flavor coffee without caffeine could have. It is delicious.
