The Fourth Is All About Independence - So Is Fair-Trade

Happy Independence Day! This weekend we will be celebrating the 4th of July here in the US. We all remember learning about how we gained our freedoms, how our Founding Fathers fought for our liberty.

This Fourth of July, why not support others as they strive for their own independence? How? Fair-Trade coffees.

What is it?

We've talked about Fair-Trade coffees before. Fair-Trade essentially means all parties are committed to putting the livelihood of the grower or producer first. With a fair-trade agreement, the farmer receives equitable pay that they can then invest in their farm, family, and community.

How does that equate to independence?

When a grower or producer is paid a fair amount for the work they do, that allows them to support themselves and their business without depending on high-interest loans or subsidies through the government. Essentially granting them freedom and independence.

How can you help?

Simple! Purchasing a Fair-Trade coffee supports the farmers and producers of that coffee. All the Fair-Trade coffees in our portfolio are certified Fair-Trade and help the farmers to support their employees and communities.

Is the coffee good?

Absolutely! You see, Fair-Trade coffee depends on people enjoying the coffee first and foremost. The growers put a lot of hard work into ensuring the coffee is grown under strict conditions. The producers, in turn, must process the coffee properly to guarantee the coffee retains its wonderful flavor.

Which coffees should I try?

Any of our delightful Fair-Trade coffees would be a delicious addition to your morning routine. Read on to learn about each of our Fair-Trade offerings.

Organic Sumatra ‘Gayo Mountain Fair-Trade This medium-dark roasted Indonesian brew is smooth, dark, and rich. It is much sweeter than it’s ‘Black Satin’ counterpart. Grown in strict accordance with organic regulations and practices, the small community surrounding the farm where this is grown benefits directly from producing this exceptional coffee.

Organic Sumatra ‘Black Satin Roast’ Fair-Trade This top-selling bean is dark roasted. It's the perfect choice for your espressos and espresso-based drinks. Intense in flavor, this coffee is surprisingly smooth and velvety with a smoky, earthy overtone and a black pepper finish. Grown in the Lake Toba region of Sumatra, the farmers produce this incredibly unique bean without using chemicals or pesticides which truly benefits the farmers who produce it.

Organic Nicaragua ‘Ceocafen’ Fair-Trade Grown by the Ceocafen cooperative in Matagalpa, Jinotega, and the surrounding area, this Nicaraguan coffee is one of our finest coffees. We roast this coffee to medium-light to bring out the naturally mild and fruity flavors which yield to a rich chocolaty finish.

Organic Guatemala ‘Santiago Atitlan’ Fair-Trade Our best-selling ‘Santiago Atitlan’ is grown high in the mountains of Guatemala. It shelters under shade trees and is protected by migratory birds in an environment which promotes slow growth. These growing conditions combine to produce coffee beans which burst with bold, rich flavor. We medium roast to bring out the bright sweetness this bean is known for.

Organic Ethiopia Sidamo Fair-Trade Soft and light, this Ethiopian coffee is medium-light roasted to bring out the spicy floral notes in the wine-like brew. Hand-harvested and dry processed, this smooth coffee is clean tasting and mild. It's the perfect choice to go with your meals.

Organic Bolivia ‘Colonial Caranavi’ Fair-Trade This heavy-bodied coffee is grown across 41 farms by native farmers known as Colonials. These farmers work to improve the quality of their coffee and their growing practices in order to bring you a sweet and fruity brew that will capture you from the first sip. Clean and with low acidity, you’re sure to enjoy the nutty chocolate finish.

Organic Timor Fair-Trade Finally, on the small island of Timor, over 7,000 farmers grow this fair-trade coffee. These farmers have banded together into cooperatives and groups to work together and combine their resources so they can improve their production capacity. Earthy with woody herb notes and just a hint of syrup and dark chocolate, this medium-roasted bean is smooth in consistency and excellent in body.

Make a difference in the life of a coffee grower and their community with a purchase of any of our Fair-Trade coffees. You'll also enjoy a delicious cup when you do.
