Taste

Light Dark

Grown and cultivated in the Lake Toba Region of the large island of Sumatra, this Indonesian coffee is a dark roasted varietal of Jember Typica that offers intense flavors that are slightly smoky and earthy. Although peppery in its finish, this heavy bodied, Organic Sumatra 'Black Satin' resonates with complexity and a slightly bitter sensation.

Definitely my favorite!

I highly recommend this Organic Black Satin coffee for the full spectrum of reasons. Firstly, it is certified organic, which I consider an essential with coffee, since heavy used of pesticides is the norm for coffee, by in large. That said, there are many food crop products that are grown meeting the organic standards but are not labeled as such because they don't pay the ongoing fees for certification inspections, etc., or perhaps fall short to a minor degree. As I understand it, all coffees grown in Sumatra are grown per organic standards, essentially by law, so it might be a good one to consider among those without the actual certification, as far as that goes. There are probably other regions and nations that require similar standards, as well, so doing your research might yield a few organically grown products that are not labeled as such due to not being certified. Of course, non-GMO, a given with the certified organic, but also certifiable by itself, comes in next, as a definite must.

The next important factor is that the coffee is dark roasted, which is your healthiest choice and also gives you the most versatility on how much you'll need to hit your pallets's particular, "sweet spot," (and you definitely will!). I also recommend paying attention to the temperature of your coffee when it tastes the best and when it doesn't. I find the peak taste and temp arrive once it cools to around 165º and even down to about 145º on taste alone, though the lower temp is less…
