Medium-Dark Coffee

Medium-dark roast coffees are roasted to just the beginning of the second crack stage, at around 435℉ to 445℉. When coffee beans are roasted to this stage all flavors are due to the roasting process and no natural flavors are remaining. The beans will be dark brown with just a slight sheen of oil on the surface. Bittersweet flavors of dark chocolate, porter beer, and vanilla bean have taken over. The full-bodied and rich texture of the coffee will be more noticeable with an occasional syrupy mouthfeel. With less caffeine, medium-dark roast coffees are a great choice for after-dinner drinks or when you don't need the extra caffeine. Other names for this roast are After Dinner, Full City Roast, and Vienna.
