Dark Roast Coffee

Dark roast coffees are typically used for espresso and espresso-based coffee drinks. They are roasted well into and occasionally past the second crack stage to a temperature of around 465℉ to 485℉. Coffee beans at this level are deep brown and almost black with a very shiny look due to the oils that have been released. There will be no natural flavor left to these beans with strong notes of bitter black tea, dark chocolate, burnt toast, and even smoke. These coffees are ideal for mochas, cappuccinos, and lattes. Because they have less caffeine, dark roast coffees are great for after dinner or when you don't need the extra boost. Dark roast coffees might also be called Italian, French, Continental, New Orleans, or Espresso Roast.
