Punxsutawney Phil and
General Beauregard Lee both saw their shadows this past Groundhog Day meaning we still have six weeks (well, five weeks now) of Winter ahead of us. How can you stay warm through these chilly days? Let’s take a look.
Warm Clothes
Well, this is a no-brainer. Sweaters, sweatshirts and sweatpants, thermal underwear, coats, hats, gloves, scarves, anything that can keep you warm. Also, layer, layer, layer. Layers are the best for the chilly weather and being able to easily handle keeping warm outside and being inside with heaters running. You can add or delete clothing as needed to regulate your body’s temperature.
Exercise
Move around to raise your body temperature. Walking, running, jogging in place, or jumping jacks, all of these are good for warming up. Make sure you wear a bottom layer of clothing that wicks sweat off your skin so you don’t get a chill, however. Items made from silk, merino wool, and even synthetics like polyester or polypropylene have wicking abilities to keep you dry and aid in keeping warm.
Heat
At home, you can keep warm by turning your heat up, again a no-brainer. Keeping the heat turned up will definitely ward off those winter chills. Outside of your forced heat or space heaters, some houses may have fireplaces. These are perfect for keeping warm as the heat can permeate the house and help your heater(s) not have to work as hard. Make sure your fireplace is in good functioning order!
Eating and Drinking
Now we’re getting to it! There are many hot items you can eat and drink to keep you warm. Making a hot soup or stew is ideal for filling you up and making you warm. Chili, beef stew, chowders, bean soup, all of these are known for “sticking to your ribs” which is what you really need for staying warm.
Drinking hot beverages can really heat you up as well. Hot chocolate, hot tea, and of course hot coffee all have their place in raising the body’s temperature. And wouldn’t you know? Here at CoffeeAM we have all three of these items!

Salted Butterscotch Latte
Ingredients
1/2 oz. Monin Butterscotch Syrup
2 pinches Sea salt
1 shot Espresso
Fill with steamed 2% milk
Preparation
Combine ingredients, except milk, in 12 oz. serving cup. Stir and set aside. Steam milk and pour into the serving cup, stirring gently. Garnish with a piece of salted butterscotch.
Minty Winter Freeze
Ingredients
1/2 oz. Monin Frosted Mint Syrup
1/2 oz. Monin White Chocolate Sauce
1/2 scoop Frappe powder of your choice
3 oz. cold 2% milk
Preparation
Combine ingredients, except ice, in a blender. Fill 12 oz. serving glass with ice and pour into blender. Blend until smooth and pour into serving glass. Garnish with whipped cream.
Iced Tiramisu Latte
Ingredients
2/4 oz. Monin Tiramisu Syrup
1 shot Espresso
3 oz. cold 2% milk
Preparation
Fill 12 oz. serving glass with ice. Add remaining ingredients. Stir well or tranfer from serving glass to other glass and back. Garnish with cocoa powder.
Snowball Mocha
Ingredients
1/4 oz. Monin Coconut Syrup
1/4 oz. Monin Toasted Marshmallow Syrup
1/2 oz. Monin Dark Chocolate Sauce
1 shot Espresso
Fill with steamed 2% milk
Preparation
Combine ingredients, except milk, in 12 oz. serving cup. Stir and set aside. Steam milk and pour into the serving cup, stirring gently. Garnish with whipped cream.
