In the 1600s, coffee beans traveled in cargo holds, sometimes for up to six months, from India to Europe on slow sailing ships. They were stowed away in damp conditions with no access to fresh air or sunlight. By the time they arrived in Europe, they were swollen and yellowed. The Europeans, not knowing any different, brewed and enjoyed them. They loved the sweetly fermented brew that had intriguing earthy and well-balanced flavors.

Since the beans are no longer subject to dark, long voyages across the sea, the conditions have been recreated. Monsooning is a 16-week, wet process method that recreates the conditions of a sea voyage to produce distinctive tasting coffee. At a medium roast, India Malabar 'Monsooned Voyage' is a very distinctive coffee that yields a top-grade brew. It is known for its medium body, gentle tanginess, and mellow flavor, and unforgettable aroma.

Not for Pour Over Method, I Guess

Highly burnt flavor. I changed every parameter I could think of: water temperature, grind level, pouring technique, water to grounds ratio. The flavor remained consistent: burnt like charcoal. I called customer service. The woman on the phone was very nice, but she said the roast session showed the beans were "perfectly roasted" according to the profile CoffeeAM uses for Malabar "Monsooned Voyage." Maybe it works better for French press or other techniques. A shame, because I was looking forward to something different.

Indian Monsooned!

It is a fantastic coffee, first time buying here and will buy again. It's maybe my favorite coffee of all, and I have tried many. Great experience with CoffeeAM. Gonna try a different single origin next.

Thank you for the good prices too!

Bought 5 pounds

I am actually a little disappointed and frustrated. It’s a much darker roast than what I wanted, so I’m not really pleased. it tastes a little burnt to me. And I have 5 pounds of it… So I’m not sure what I’m going to do.
